EDITOR’S LETTER
NOT SO
RANDOM
ACTS OF KINDNESS
This month my mailbox is full of hundreds of lovely letters
from readers who have told me their own heartwarming
stories of good deeds and acts of compassion. I just had
HEALTHIER
SKIN AND
FREE STUFF
It pays to be smart
about skin-cancer
prevention. These
companies are
partnering with
dermatologists to
provide free tools
and screenings now
through September.
ÄAveeno is sponsoring the

Step inside the custom RV

I can’t wait to hear from you!
ÀROAD REVIEW
You know those trucks that have the sign on the back asking
“ ?” I called to report what a good job the driver was doing. The operator
was shocked when she found out that I was giving a compliment, not voicing a complaint.
Anita Dodson, Monroe, Georgia
ÀTHE SUPPLY FAIRY
I am a retired middle school secretary and have always admired teachers who spend
their own money on supplies. Each semester before school starts I walk down the back-to-school aisles of our local Walmart and when I find someone who looks like they are
buying for an army, I ask if he or she is a teacher. When the answer is yes, I give them
$20 and thank them for their service. Linda Foster, The Villages, Florida
ÀPRETEEN PHILANTHROPIST
My 12-year-old granddaughter recently found $22 at a youth basketball
tournament. She turned the money in but it wasn’t claimed so she was told
she could keep it. Instead of spending it on herself she donated the money
to her church the following Sunday. It’s moments like these that make
grandparents feel so proud! Peggy Ditto, Cambridge, Ohio
ÀCLIP AND CARE
I cut out extra coupons for items that I won’t be buying and put them on
shelves at the grocery store for others to find. It feels so good to know that
for no-cost screenings and
sun-care products. Details at
skincancer.org.
for a few seconds I put a smile on a stranger’s face, and in this economy a few pennies
in her pocket, too! Tenia Cattles, Goose Creek, South Carolina

ÀSOUL QUENCHER
Whenever I see a lemonade stand run by kids I stop and buy a cup. It’s my little way to
encourage young entrepreneurs in our community. Tricia Lewis, Wheeling, Illinois
ÀSWEET SURPRISE
ÄTeach your teenager about
the dangers of getting too
much sun. The Skin Cancer
Foundation and Eucerin have
joined forces to publish the
Sunsational Guide to Smart
Sun Safety, which is filled with
educational tools. Find it at
skincancer.org/school.
Anytime my fiancé sees a candy machine he places quarters into the slot for a
child to find. He thinks not only of children who may want a little treat but also of
parents who might not be able to afford it. It just makes me love him so much more.
